The design concept behind this magazine rack arises from the idea of breaking out of the norm and challenging the established. Contrary to the standard, the surfaces where the books and magazines will rest are not aligned with any of the three planes defined by our Cartesian axes X, Y and Z, but are instead tilted in every direction by means of two simple rotations.
This results in an interesting composition that mutates from every perspective and challenges the eye to understand an unorthodox object that doesn’t follow the conventional alignments and rules of our material world. This piece challenges the viewers normalcy. There is something about it that makes you a little uncomfortable but also opens your mind and your space to new and different perspectives. Suddenly our world view changes and we realise things can also be different. We can challenge the norm.
More on the design of the XYZ magazine rack here.
All independently produced pieces are made by small-scale fabricators and traditional artisans, brought to life through skillful craftsmanship, using high-quality and sustainably-sourced materials. Handmade processes may result in small variations, which adds uniqueness and value to each object. Natural materials, such as the solid oak used to produce XYZ, may also present subtle differences in tone or color compared to the images shown.
This design is crafted using sustainably-sourced FSC-certified oak wood, ensuring that every component comes from responsibly managed resources. This material is chosen not only for its durability and aesthetic appeal but also for its low environmental impact. The use of a renewable and ethically sourced material reflects a commitment to both quality craftsmanship and environmental responsibility.

Wood is a natural material, and each piece is unique, with subtle changes occurring over time due to exposure to sunlight, humidity, and temperature. These environmental factors can cause variations in color, grain, and even small splits or cracks. Such natural movements do not compromise the product and can be treated with wood oil. To maintain wooden furniture, it’s recommended to oil the surface once a year or when the wood appears dry. Always apply oil following the grain, and test on a hidden area first, as it may slightly darken the wood. Avoid heat, moisture, and abrasive cleaners; spills from colored liquids like wine or coffee should be wiped off immediately. For daily care, use a slightly damp cloth and dry with a dry cloth. Major repairs should always be handled by a professional.
