Omayra Maymó es una arquitecta y diseñadora española dedicada a la creación de mobiliario, iluminación y objetos, a través de los cuales explora el potencial narrativo y emocional de nuestro mundo material. Tras pasar un largo período viviendo y trabajando en Copenhague, donde fundó su estudio de diseño en 2016, actualmente reside en su ciudad natal, Madrid, desde donde colabora con distintas compañías a nivel internacional.
EL ENFOQUE DEL DISEÑO
OBJETOS HONESTOS Y ATEMPORALES; CONTANDO HISTORIAS QUE TRASCIENDEN LA FUNCIÓN
Su trabajo se centra en crear objetos y piezas atemporales, honestas y significativas, que pretenden evocar vínculos emocionales con sus propietarios para así perdurar toda la vida junto a ellos, apelando a los aspectos más sentimentales de la sostenibilidad. Se ve a sí misma como una narradora de historias y concibe el objeto como una forma de expresión, como el lenguaje de una intención o un significado que quiere transmitirse más allá de la funcionalidad y la estética del objeto, para conmover a la gente.
TRABAJANDO EN UN ESPECTRO
Además de su trabajo con productos industriales basados en un contexto de producción a gran escala, sus proyectos más especulativos, que a menudo resultan en piezas únicas y experimentales, constituyen una parte importante de su trabajo y enfoque. Sus proyectos a menudo buscan formas de fusionar estos dos marcos aparentemente opuestos en uno solo, explorando el potencial natural de los materiales y sus límites y reconsiderando cómo se procesan, con el objetivo de traer nuevas perspectivas a la industria del diseño y abordar formas más significativas y humanas de fabricación.

Omayra ha dado recientemente un paso trascendental en su camino creativo al producir de forma independiente una colección de sus propias historias originales. Estas obras, pequeñas pero significativas, son el resultado de su visión personal y su dedicación, y marcan un nuevo capítulo en su expresión artística. Cada historia refleja su perspectiva única y un enfoque reflexivo hacia la narrativa. Ahora, estas piezas exclusivas están disponibles para su adquisición únicamente a través de esta web, presentadas junto a una cuidada selección de otros diseños desarrollados para diferentes colaboradores.
PRODUCCIÓN ARTESANAL Y FABRICACIÓN A PEQUEÑA ESCALA
Estos diseños producidos de forma independiente subrayan el compromiso de Omayra con la artesanía y la integridad artística. Cada pieza se realiza en cantidades limitadas por pequeños fabricantes y artesanos tradicionales especializados, que dan vida a cada creación a través de su experiencia y dedicación al oficio. Este enfoque garantiza que cada objeto esté impregnado de carácter, calidad y ese toque humano que diferencia lo hecho a mano de la producción en masa.
Circular y sostenible:
Además, la sostenibilidad está en el centro de este proyecto, con un fuerte enfoque en la selección de materiales de la más alta calidad, obtenidos de manera ética y responsable. Ya sea madera, metal u otros componentes, cada material se elige cuidadosamente para asegurar un impacto ambiental mínimo, sin comprometer la calidad. A través de esta combinación consciente de creatividad, colaboración y producción responsable, estas piezas no solo cuentan historias, sino que también encarnan valores de sostenibilidad y respeto por las técnicas tradicionales.

Nacida en Madrid, Omayra estudió la licenciatura y el máster en Arquitectura en la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid. Tras graduarse, trabajó como arquitecta hasta que se trasladó a Dinamarca en 2014, donde cursó un máster en Diseño Industrial en Designskolen Kolding, graduándose con honores en 2016.
Omayra fundó su estudio de diseño en 2016 en Copenhague, donde pasó los primeros 4 años de su carrera trabajando en exclusiva para la marca danesa de diseño ferm LIVING. En 2020 inició su regreso a Madrid, donde actualmente reside, marcando el comienzo de su trabajo independiente como diseñadora de mobiliario.
Su carrera profesional ha sido reconocida tanto a nivel nacional como internacional con prestigiosos premios en el campo del diseño. Entre los más destacados se encuentran el “Premio Fuera de Serie - Diseño e Innovación” otorgado por Fuera de Serie; el reconocimiento “Best of Spain” de AD España; el “Premio Joven Talento del Año 2021” otorgado por la revista Interiores; y el “Premio New Designers 2019” de Neo2. Fuera de España, su trabajo también ha sido reconocido con varias nominaciones a los prestigiosos Design Awards en Dinamarca.
Su obra ha sido expuesta en Nueva York, Milán, Londres, Madrid, Barcelona, Copenhague, Estocolmo y Bruselas. Ha sido ponente y jurado en numerosas instituciones y universidades tanto en España como a nivel internacional. Actualmente, imparte clases de manera regular en el IED Madrid y en la Universidad Nebrija.

Her work is centred in creating timeless, honest, meaningful and beautifully simple objects that aim to evoke emotional bonds with their owner, and therefore last a lifetime beside them, appealing to the most sentimental aspects of sustainability. She sees herself as a storyteller and conceives the object as a form of expression, as the language of an intention or a meaning that wants to be transmitted beyond the object's functionality and aesthetics, in order to move people.
In addition to her work with industrial products grounded in a large-scale production context, her more speculative projects, which often result in unique, experimental pieces, make up an important part of her work and approach. Her projects often search for ways to merge these two seemingly opposite frameworks into one, seemingly opposite f exploring the natural potential of materials and their limits and reconsidering how they are processed, with the aim to bring new perspectives into the design industry and approach more meaningful and human ways of manufacturing.
Her work has been recognized with several awards and honours and has been exhibited in New York, Milan, London, Madrid, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Brussels. She has been a guest lecturer and jury member at numerous institutions and universities across Spain and internationally. Presently, she teaches regularly at the Product Design programme at IED Madrid and at the Industrial Design Engineering programme at Universidad Nebrija.
