Porta Receives a Fuera de Serie Design and Innovation Award

The Porta armchair has been recognised with a Fuera de Serie Design and Innovation Award 2024, awarded by Fuera de Serie magazine. Designed for the Valencian firm Omelette Editions, Porta was honoured in the Furniture category, one of nine categories that recognise the best of Spanish design and innovation.
A Milestone in The Journey.
The jury, composed of industry experts, chose Porta from among all new furniture novelties launched that year by all Spanish design brands. The jury highlighted the quality, originality, and expressive power of Porta, a piece that combines constructive rigor, sculptural presence, and maximum comfort.
The awards ceremony took place on July 2nd at The H Club in Madrid. Omayra received the award accompanied by Ommar Uribe, Pedro Rivera, and Raúl Durá, founders of Omelette Editions, at an event that brought together leading professionals and brands from the Spanish design scene.
This recognition is not only a great honor but also paved the way for Omayra’s career as a creator, confirming the growing reach of her practice within the design landscape.
Sculptural Seat of Timeless Expression.
The initial idea behind Porta arose from observing the entrance portico of the Palace of Assembly in Chandigarh, designed by Le Corbusier in 1951. The armchair is an abstraction of that bold, brutal, and subtle sculptural expressionism. It is a high-backed, partially upholstered piece made of oak wood, laminated for the main body and solid for the legs, which materializes into a sturdy and powerful seat. Its simple and honest construction reveals polished details, while its thoughtful ergonomics and the combination of foam layers of different densities ensure balanced and long-lasting comfort.
