DESIGN STORY:

Colonna is a project that aims to highlight the value and the beauty of imperfection, something that makes for more soulful and unique objects. Colonna is a set of two bookends made in travertine. They are two cylindrical volumes whose upper side has been left raw, which shows the real texture of the unpolished natural stone, as if an entire column had been split in two. These objects evoke a small story about ancient ruins, vestiges of a bygone culture to be found among the literature of books.

These objects can hold books beside them, serve as paperweights, or simply stand on their own, as they carry within them the essence of a small sculpture.

A UNIQUE WAY OF MANUFACTURING:

The crafting process of the Colonna bookends results in one of a kind objects. Enhancing the material’s natural singularities, their upper surface is intentionally left raw and imperfect. Like modern relics, they celebrate the beauty of imperfection and highlight the richness of the stone’s natural materiality. Their design, combined with the inherent qualities of the material, guarantees that no two pieces are exactly alike: this uniqueness is not a flaw but a defining feature. These intentional variations reflect a more human and thoughtful approach to making, where individuality and authenticity are central to the object’s value and beauty.
